CONTINUING EDUCATION WILL HELP YOU SECURE YOUR NEXT LEGAL OR IT JOB

Continuing Legal Education is a chess move in your favor.

To remain at the top of your field as a paralegal or IT team member, you must keep your skills current. In addition to keeping up with any changes in statutes and case law, paralegals should stay on top of changes that will affect their ability to do their jobs efficiently. Both paralegals and IT employees should remain tech-savvy and current with document management improvements, trial techniques, and court rules.

As a paralegal or IT professional, taking continuing education courses is an excellent way to stay on top of changes in the law and advances in the legal field.

Here are the top 3 benefits of continued education:

  •  Increased value to the firm. Increasing your knowledge, building additional skills, and strengthening your current skills will make you invaluable to your law firm. In the long run, staying on top of your game may also lead to a raise or promotion.
  • Better performance. As you gain confidence by learning how better to perform your job, you will be able to handle more tasks. Your new techniques and skills will make you more productive and efficient.
  • Advanced communication skills. Paralegals often are the “go-between” for all parties involved in a case (attorneys, clients, courts, experts, witnesses). IT personnel are usually solving multiple problems at once under highly stressful situations. Successful law firms are built on great communicators!

Paralegals and IT team members who regularly attend continuing education courses are more marketable and have more opportunities for career growth. Not only does learning more help you to be an asset to your law firm, but it will also open the door for your career growth. Remember to update your resumes annually with your completed continuing education credits.

Top IT Skills

In February of this year, Team BRYTER wrote that in-house legal technology budgets will grow 200% by 2025. As these departments become increasingly dependent on technology to keep up the pace, IT specialists and tech-savvy legal professionals will most likely skyrocket.

One specialty predicted to continue in high demand is e-discovery/litigation. As document formatting changes due to improvements in software, professionals who are well-acquainted with the latest in e-discovery and knowledgeable about file compatibility across different platforms will have a leg up against other candidates. A paralegal with a background in predictive coding and further analysis software might cut document review by hours and make for a highly valued prospect.

What Recruiters are Looking For

Workflow, in general, will continue to embrace both automation and digitization, and having tech-friendly skills at hand will only help your chances on the market. Updating your skill set in these areas will raise your chances of success in the face of future tech innovations and a changing work environment.

Recruiters look for candidates with experience using legal research products such as Westlaw and LexisNexis. Potential employers may also expect proficiency in client software suites such as Google Workspace and Office 365. In addition, if you know law practice management software such as Clio and PracticePanther, you may gain an edge over your competition.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL HIRING IN 2021 AND BEYOND

Hiring advice
Find and retain the right employees with these 5 Tips

In 2020, the killing of George Floyd came a global outcry for systemic change. This movement allowed company leaders to rethink their hiring practices while seeking to advance racial equity. In 2021, the call is to create a diverse and equitable workforce where each person can bring their best self to work regardless of age, gender, race, background, ability, or religion.

You can increase your chances of hiring the right candidates by following these 5 Tips:

  1. Enhance your DE&I for better hiring

In the future, more candidates will make job choices based on their assessment of a company’s visible diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). According to Dan Schawbel, a bestselling author and managing partner at Workplace Intelligence, a New York City-based HR research and advisory firm, “70 percent of job seekers said they want to work for a company that demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion.”

  1. Create a virtual onboarding experience

As hiring freezes begin to lift and your company seeks to add to your existing teams, find a way to streamline your onboarding. Preparing a virtual onboarding experience will help you deliver a welcoming message as well as an insight into your company’s culture.

  1. Prioritize talent development for future hiring

The skills-gap crisis isn’t new to hiring managers. However, it has intensified from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Learning and development programs should be more than a “perk” to offer employees for their personal growth. Providing training and advancement opportunities within your company is an effective strategy for growing your business. This strategy will help you attract and retain top talent.

  1. Protect your employees from burnout

If your work hours include evenings and weekends, employee burnout is a possibility.  You should train managers to identify the signs and encourage employees to prioritize their mental health. Overworked employees are stressed, depressed and are likely to make more mistakes.

  1. Connect your employees’ work to your company’s mission

Rather than chasing a higher salary, job seekers are becoming more attracted to mission-driven companies. People want to work for companies that align with their values. Furthermore, when training managers have meaningful conversations with employees, they break down the traditional hierarchies that prevent people from feeling like they’re making an impact.

Although 2020 brought many challenges, it also created space for a new and improved way of working. At Strategic Recruitment Solutions, we have been matching top companies with top talent in the Gulf Region for more than a decade. Our industry-expert recruiters can offer insight and guidance in all aspects of Legal and IT recruiting. Call us today at 888-366-6508 to learn how easy partnering with SRS can help you reach your business goals.

IT MARKET PREDICTED TO EXPAND WITH AI-RELATED JOBS

Artificial Intelligence will add jobs to IT
Law firms will need more IT personnel

Attention IT personnel. No need to worry that AI (artificial intelligence) jobs will replace you! Yes, it is true, AI-related jobs have doubled within the last 5 years and the growth is expected to continue. However, as the AI industry creates new demands, IT jobs will recycle back into the market.

THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM (WEF) REPORT

According to the WEF, by 2022, the “top 10 emerging” jobs, will include data analysts, AI/machine learning specialists, and applications developers. The “The Future of Jobs 2018″ report from the WEF predicts the growth of artificial intelligence will create 58 million new jobs in the next few years. Although nearly 50 percent of all companies are expecting their full-time workforce to shrink by 2022 due to automation, another 40 percent are expecting to extend their workforce. Furthermore, more than 25 percent are expecting automation to create new roles.

IT JOB SECURITY

There are two reasons that IT personnel will continue to have job security:

  1. Many jobs are tested for automation, but not all pass the test; and
  2. Finally, there are many regulations and economic factors that could deter or even prevent job automation.

At Strategic Recruitment Solutions we match top companies with top talent. We have over a decade of experience of serving the Gulf Region. As a result, we are your one-stop shop for information, guidance, and insight into the legal and IT markets.

Finally, our job seekers’ career success is always our top priority as we continue to meet the challenges of the IT and legal industries. If you are ready to more than double your advantage in advancing your career, call us today!  Why not search our current job opportunities or submit your resume now?

7 RED FLAGS TO WATCH DURING YOUR NEXT TECH INTERVIEW

Watch For These 7 Red Flags In Your Tech Interview
When interviewing, watch for these 7 red flags

Your IT interview will be very different from a standard job interview. During a tech interview, you may be asked to complete a skills-based task. While you are completing this task, the interviewer will access your ability to complete it in a timely and efficient manner. Your interviewer will also consider your behavior during the process.

Tigran Sloyan, CEO of CodeSignal, a skills-based assessment platform for the IT industry, identified seven red flags for employers to be aware of during a tech interview. He cautioned that if the job candidate exhibits these seven things, employers should pass:

1. Being unaware of the company’s mission during your interview.

A candidate who is passionate about the job opportunity will take time to prepare for the interview which includes researching the company’s mission.

2. Showing a lack of attention to detail.

If a candidate does not fully pay attention to the task description given in the interview, this could lead to a failure of following future directions or sloppy work.

 3. Moving past an impasse.

Real-life engineering problems are not straightforward. Innovative engineers come up with new ways of addressing technical issues when they hit a wall.

4. Ignoring help from the interviewer.

The purpose of a skills-based interview is to assess specific skills, not a candidate’s individuality. If you fail to acknowledge help from the interviewer, this reflects that you are a mediocre team player.

 5. Exhibiting an inadequate and inconsistent coding style.

If a candidate is inconsistent in coding style, it could potentially be a disaster in a team setting, especially if other engineers need to understand this person’s code to debug.

 6. Not taking edge cases or inputs into consideration.

An essential part of writing professional codes is knowing how to write edge cases and inputs. These two things have the potential to cause breaks in coding if not entered correctly.

 7. Being unable to share and learn from past mistakes.

A great candidate will be able to recognize when they make a mistake and be able to learn from it.

So if you are a top performing professional looking to forge a new career path, consider partnering with Strategic Recruitment Solutions. We work with most of the law firms and technology companies in the Louisiana Gulf Coast region, as well as top companies throughout the nation. We can provide access to positions in the Legal and IT fields that may not be advertised on job boards or a company’s website. Search our current opportunities or submit your resume to get started!
