Why is your LinkedIn profile important? LinkedIn has over a billion users worldwide and is the largest professional network. With an optimized and up-to-date LinkedIn profile, you can showcase your identity to hundreds (or even thousands) of professionals in your industry, while also building a network and applying for jobs. No matter what stage you are in your career, a good LinkedIn profile can help you create more connections and more opportunities. Remember to keep your profile up-to-date.

Here are 12 Tips To Ensure Your LinkedIn Profile Stands Out

1. Make Sure You Have A Professional Headshot

One of the most effortless ways to gain attention is by adding a headshot to your profile. According to LinkedIn, a profile with a professional headshot can gain up to 21 times more views compared to those without one.

2. Create An Informative and Eye-catching Headline

Just below your name is your headline. Most profile visitors will read your headline before they look at the rest of your profile. LinkedIn’s default settings will automatically fill out your headline with your current position, and you can then edit your profile to be more specific. You have 120 characters to write an accurate and enticing headline. For example, instead of stating your position, highlight your specialization. You can also add multiple details about who you are and your capabilities.

3. Craft An Interesting About Section

Using the About section plays a significant role in creating your perfect profile. Think of it as a small biography of your career. Starting from college to the present. This time, you have about 2000 characters to use, allowing you to go into more detail. Using an appealing and bold About section will make your LinkedIn profile more prominent.

4. Use The Right Keywords

While creating your profile, remember to use language and words relevant to your career. Why is using keywords so crucial? Sometimes visitors will skim for keywords to see if your profile matches what they’re looking for. To find the right words, look for their criteria and incorporate them into your profile. For example, identify common traits that a company may want to develop skills in to stand out.

5. Highlight your experience

Don’t just list job titles and employers’ names; provide specific details about your accomplishments. List three to four bullet points of your main achievements and daily assignments to get an idea of what your job was like. While it is true you have more room, people have a short attention span; therefore, keep it simple, yet effective. When writing down your experience, use the active voice instead of the passive voice to make the roles sound more interesting.

6. List and Update Your Skills Regularly

The more skills you have, the more likely recruiters are to visit your profile. When searching for new employees, recruiters will make sure you have the skills they’re looking for. It is the same logic as the relevant words. But remember to keep your skills updated. If you’ve acquired a new skill, consider uploading it to make your account stand out. The skills also give recruiters a bigger picture of what you offer as an employee.

7. Complete All Sections of Your Profile and Customize Your URL

While completing your profile, you may have noticed there are other sections to fill out. You will see: languages, publications, organizations, and education—the more information you provide, the “all-star” status you will achieve.

Your LinkedIn account is connected to a URL. The base URL will be your name and random characters, so try making it stand out more. To the right of your profile, you’ll find an option to edit your public LinkedIn URL. You can include your name, employer, job position, or the city you work in.

Bonus Tips

Start Networking

At last, you know how to create your perfect profile, and you’re ready to start networking.  Continue to grow your connections to remain visible and attract future job opportunities.  Each stem represents a distinct connection that leads to another connection. Check your feed a couple of times a week and keep your updates full. Read, comment, and share articles that others post.

Ask for Recommendations and Endorsements

The power of word of mouth is insane. Using recommendations is key to making your LinkedIn profile stand out. Employers want to know your opinions on your work to make sure it’s credible. Unfortunately, people often overlook this factor when applying for jobs. A way to gain more recommendations is to create recommendations for others first and ask for one in return.

Don’t neglect the obvious

Some basic things are often overlooked, such as:

  • Check to see that your information is not only present but accurate.
  • Set your privacy setting to open.
  • When providing information, ensure it is detailed and not just a list of minor bullet points.
  • Update your profile with any changes as soon as possible.
  • The LinkedIn mobile app allows you to add the pronunciation of your name.
  • Avoid using AI to write and respond to posts; you will receive more negative responses than positive ones due to the use of AI.

Use your LinkedIn to get noticed!

LinkedIn is more powerful than you think, and the best part is that it is so easy to use. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and make the most of it to secure the best job for your career. Your profile will be the best reflection of you, from your summary to your headshot, to your skills and achievements.
